The internet
was supposed to liberate knowledge,
but in fact it buried it,
first under a vast sewer
of ignorance,
laziness,
bigotry,
superstition
and filth
and then beneath the cloak of political surveillance.
Now cyberspace exists exclusively
to promote
commerce,
gossip
and pornography.
And of course to hunt down sedition.
Only paper is safe.
Books are the key.
A book cannot be accessed from afar,
you have to hold it,
you have to read it.
And finally become it.

Reading books are like working in a mental gym, strengthening the muscles needed to solve real-world problems. Reading engages the brain, keeping it active and improving cognitive functions. This can help reduce the risk of cognitive decline as we age.

Absolutely, no gym worth doing than reading good, bad, boring books. Scientifically seen and feels like we know it what it does. Thank you for this valuable comment, Aatma.

Fully agree and sadly they are trying to ban some very wonderful books. I plan to get them while I can. Great job

O yes, ban some books- but isn’t it a good thing too- it tells that books are still dangerous. Thanks JAM.

Digital media can never replace the books. Umpteen times I have felt that for the right reference the printed books in the text form and on paper serve in the best way. Even more our own works saved in the written form are always authentic. So one should wake up to the reality that digital form is not as much reliable as are the books. Books have a longer shelf life also. I’m convinced that this whole balloon of internet and on line working is doomed and will be no more within the next 2 to 5 years.

It might happen Vinay ji. It might happen that people start pulling away from social media, from sharing every damn thing, but the addiction to screen as of now is on whole another level. It is destructive as you know and little children exposed early are the ones who are doomed to lose in life early.
Books have no alternative, truly and they have been the single most authority in changing/transforming people to their best of abilities.
Thank you so much for your important views.

Strong words! I agree with a lot of what you say, but books can be dangerous and/or in danger too. I’m reminded of Ray Bradbury’s masterpiece, Fahrenheit 451.

Yes, i agree. Books can be dangerous, may be that was why many get burnt or get banned for all kinds of reasons. But the world we are in Harini, its majorly going towards people in future not having the time, patience and right aptitude to read books entirely.
I haven’t read Fahrenheit 451, i used to hear about it a decade ago but you mentioning it makes me imagine it. I will try having it now. Thanks Harini.

I agree! The internet is such an asset but used in such damaging ways I wish it had never been invented.

We are riddled with artificial life, which is influenced by instant gratification only to feel pleasure, which is also fake. I read almost every day, and there’s true pleasure in that coz it’s like having a deep conversation with someone(an expert) on the topic of interest.

On point dear Festo. Sometimes just to think how amazing it is to just deny these devices a place in our pockets and bags. And it becomes just the world we want to be in. Also I do not know how but i get strange pleasure when I don’t use a phone for the longest time myself(and that is at most a day or half) and a see people around me looking down, drowning in their screens. Books are going to be the most valuable creations for times coming.
Thank you so much for your comment Festo.

I’ve thought about this a lot. I think a lot of it is market driven. If there’s an audience? That may be the problem — what you’ve listed here is what people want to watch. I don’t think we can change people. When I look around me here I am dumbfounded and not at the same time.

It’s just apt what you wrote dear Martha. We cannot change people but being around children I Feel we can fill them with different, better stuff. We now know with experience where all this internet, information, screen splashes will take anyone. Even if the majority goes that way, some children can and must take a better route.

I cannot imagine my life without books. I agree about the internet but it has become a part of our lives. It depends on how we use it and make sure that it does not control us. Well written.

I cannot imagine my life without books either Lakshmi Ji, even though i am reading as much i tell myself too but buying good books have become a habit. At least I would like to present a great library where a room must speak loud to even the ones with phones.
Yes, controlling is a good word but last one decade and a half one hardly can define one’s boundaries.
Thank you for your views, Lakshmi ji.
