The Hymn

When I returned to Ishbar that night, Shiban seemed speechless. But Dr Kaul looked at him with satisfaction giving an expression like “then he has seen.” And soon the moment came to explain to him what he had seen. We sat around fire, while waiting for the food to arrive. Open your ears, said Dr Kaul and he began speaking like reciting an over practised hymn. “The men in the east, he said, are trees; those in the south are flocks of animals; those in the west are wild plants. Last, those in the north like ourselves, who cried out while they ate other men, were the waters. When the collective sound of chewing filled the air, he started explaining about eating. The act of eating is a violence that causes what is living, in its many forms, to disappear. Whether grass, plants, trees, animals, or human beings, the process is the same. There is always a fire that devours and a substance that is devoured. This violence, bringing misery and torment, will one day …

Amarnath in the times of article 370

Even after thinking about doing something daily, one ends up doing it, achieving it, finishing it only in the head. In the head is good, as it creates enough compound interest in head but it is not good enough. I have had ups and downs, and have been away from home for some time. I was in Kashmir when article 370 was taken off. I was one of the last person to have trekked the majestic Amarnath ji this year. Without any plan or any inclination to have wanted to do it but surrendering to flow of life is such it takes you along on the paths, and you would enjoy. I fell in love with the harmony of the few people who walked along, some saints barefoot, and two without a leg who finished approximately sixty kilometres in as many days as I did. Food, sweets, tea, love and the name of shiva. But the feeling was erratic even then. Tents, people were leaving a month before. And many had already left. The way …

Dawn Five

Dawn 5 25-26 Aug 18 1:10 AM This blog is giving me so many options that I don’t need them all. I have kind of surrendered in. I do not want to explore all what I can do. I just want to write and post each night simply without images if I may, each I night till I die some morning, noon or night. Evening I fine too. Last few days have been heavy. Right after meeting Lee and having super heavy Dosa, I have kept having less but all ghee(clarified butter) enriched food. Its loveable of course but learnt a very important way of having ghee. If one wants to have a good lubricated joints over a span of a life time then have ghee few minutes before having food. It will not only help in digestion but will give let the intestinal path lubricated enough for the food to pass faster. Day was dull. I am about to finish Roberto Calasso’s Ka. It’s an informative read. At last the results are out and …

Bird Man of Kashmir

Even though Rasool’s favorite rooster died of old age but his death wasn’t natural. The biggest virtue just before death he could acquire was patience. Yet he remained curious as a crow. He was a fighter cock and the last fight he will be remembered for was with the biggest cat who would swim every crossing Dal from the main road. She would come and eat the chickens. He injured her in the stomach but in fight lost one of his shoulders. In the following days, four other cocks came from a nearby farm and almost killed him. He was blinded in one eye and eventually lost all his confidence and started walking strangely due to the absence of an eye. But he will live through the summer and the moment he started looking like getting healthier. He was found upturned in lake one morning. Rasool had six sheeps, twelve ducks and six hen and their hundreds of children, and twelve swans.  The swans who were loved by all, and who had acquired many names …

Almost Empty

Dawn 2 New Delhi Is it true that good days pass fast or even boring days sprint by too? And what about the rainy ones if it is only raining all day ? When the weeping of the clouds has taken the better out of you, amongst the buildings that only deal with touching the clouds. Like the society in front of mine is “Cloud 9”. And mine is “Angel Mercury”. And they are serious people! What would a boring day look like in the life of a modern Yogi? Too much comfort? Availability of Gadgets! No one talks of electricity anymore! Yog is an art and yoga is the union. Let me write fast because I have eaten rather lazily by the end of tonight when I had thought of skipping it. Ma cooked something irresistible. And when one is rarely at home, smells such a delicacy from the god’s hand herself. I would rather not eat for whole tomorrow than now. Tomorrow is the weekly fast day. This fast, though I have been …
