The Times They Are A Changing

Last week was Historic for India. Not because of an impossible looking chase made possible by Virat Kohli, an Indian Cricketer during India versus Pakistan in Melbourne, Australia during the Cricket World Cup.

And may be not also because of Rishi Sunak, a British Indian becoming Britain’s Youngest Prime Minister in 200 years. And that here in India, all are going gaga about 75 years later remark! Even though it isn’t any less an achievement. Given how britishers are divided on an Asian being their Prime Minister. In a hilarious swipe, I heard Trevor Noah stating on it being the revenge time, while coaxing the English people to imagine a time when the great empire was trying to rule countries where no one looked like them!” Anyways, I only wish that however he got elected, he must put his everything to get Britain back on track.

But for something which completely got overshadowed with all the happenings the world over. Last week Indian Space and Research Organisation put the heaviest ever Indian Rocket with 36 satellites into the orbit with a payload of 6 metric tonnes. And successfully positioning these satellites in space.

This. It is this that amazes us of how and what we have achieved in 75 years.



Decisions and crises and moments of significant effort and risk can be stressful.

But the challenge of a stressful day is rarely directly related to today,
it’s about tomorrow or years from now.


Because we live in the times and they are changing.

Hi, I am Narayan Kaudinya. And i welcome you on this journey, the Road to Nara ! I am an Ethnographer and a practicing Indologist. I did my masters in History and further learnt Sanskrit, Yoga and Nerve-therapy. At 24, pushing most academic sounding, office sitting works away, i felt compelled to know and understand the world and my country, Bharat/India. I travelled, and as it happened i took up teaching in Kashmir and further up in the remote villages of Baltistan in the foothills of Karakoram Ranges. For around three years and many states later there came a time when i felt that it was only while teaching i learnt how to laugh, to see, feel, breathe, love and cry -with children, and mostly resource-less parents in the harshest-freezing border conditions. I write, and work as a documentary photographer and Filmmaker, with numerous published, exhibited and some awarded stories. In my travels and life i have let nature lead me, the divine mother, and as a Yogin, my resolve here is to share my experiences and thoughts as honestly, and through them to blossom in everyone the power and possibility in pursuing your breath, that you seek your true nature with courage and curiosity. Here, on this road i will share my spirit, my love for nature, the elements of life that are us. And in doing so, i'll be happy to see you along.

    True that. The MSM and social media are so intent on magnifying trivial issues that present our country in a poor light, that they take special care never to highlight such great achievements. Thank you for this post.

      I think dear friend, attacks have only started. And it is going to get a little vicious by the year. We are soon going to play an active role in world politics as the world is getting ready for all the upheavals that are going to come, wars and cyber attacks.

      Dear Monroe(if I can call you that) we are working towards it yes, slowly building things, much like proactive ants. We are the largest exporters of medicine in the world and even gave the covid vaccines to 70 countries without really charging for it. And yes, Tech is our second nature.

    I, also, noted Sunak’s election as something of an ironic development in world history. Loved the selection of such an apparently wise young man to the position.

    The second of Narayan’s articles is devoted to the most important Indian Space
    and Research Organisation’s achievement of putting the heaviest ever Indian
    Rocket with 36 satellites successfully into space.

    Narayan mentioned in contrast other less important media interests – cricket and
    Rishi Sunak’s being voted the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. In my view,
    instead of giving space to a comedian, Trevor Noah, he should entertain the readers with the blundering quote from the US President who when speaking at
    an event in Washington to mark the festival of Diwali which Rishi Sunak as a Hindu observes, Joe Biden undid his congratulatory ‘groundbreaking millstone’
    message by stumbling over his name. In his speech, he said ‘And whether it’s the United Kingdom, where just today, we’ve got news that Rashee Sanook is now the prime minister. As my brother would say, “go figure”.’

    Going back to the important Indian achievement, Narayan provided iconic and poignant pictures of the past and present, first of transporting the rockets on bicycles, and now the launch in the full glory of the rockets going into space.

    Narayan’s stroke of cleverness is in using the last paragraph as a clasp joining the text with his title, ” Because we live in the times and they are changing.”
    An excellent article and it will be remembered by the readers.

      Dearest Joanna, thank you for your wonderful analysis and even an explanatory description of the underlying meaning.

      I completely agree with you on the Biden front but you know I really feel him in particular is a vicious leader than a serious leader. He isn’t doing any meaningful work or even talk work hence his views hardly matter unlike Noah’s whose comic perceptions earlier than these remarks have taken my attention.

      I really hope Sunak stands up and gives his best. That he makes his country and even us proud. I see some stability coming atleast for sometime. And hoping Indian government will be proactive in many deals and issues.

      Thank you for your memorable and even socio political take on this.

        Thank you, Narayan, for your kind reply. I did not like the implication of the comedian that people here resent Rishi because he is of Indian heritage. When they say something derogatory they either are supporting the other party or are not sure if the mess he is going to sort out is going to happen.
        If you are missing your diary, why not write?

    Well I think both events are cool – a Brit of Indian heritage as PM, and India putting satellites in space. Indeed – the times they are a changing.

    In my 73 years on this planet I have observed a lot of change and changes! I like the historic turn to have a Hindu South Asian person as the British Prime Minister. I hope he can turn around the chaos in England. He is a bright young man and I wish him the best.

    Hi Narayan,

    Yes, we have high hopes for Rishi. I have to say he’s of the opposite side of the political spectrum to me, but I still wish him well, and hope he can get us back on track, or at least deliver us some semblance of stability over the coming winter. His Conservative party, though, is looking very tired and fractious now after 12 years in power, so he’s got a tough job as leader ahead of him. I think he proved himself a safe pair of hands though, as Chancellor, during the height of the pandemic. That, and his long-standing business credentials won him the approval of London’s financial sector and, so far, seems to have calmed the markets, which freaked out and crashed under Liz Truss’ brief incumbency.

      Same here in India we feel dear Michael. For once he leads more capably and justly than we have seen in past few years. It possibly is also need of the hour. Hoping that Indian government will cooperate in his governance.

    That first photo of the payloads on bike are not to be laughed at. They were appropriate technology. The best engineering solves problems with the least effort. The photos remind me of a story I heard a couple of decades back.

    In the early days of the space race, the US spent large sums of money developing a ball pen which could work in zero gravity. The USSR simply used pencils.

    Narayan, Great to hear the good news! May the new satellites spread valuable technology and progress. May Britain’s new prime minister help bring Britain renewed prosperity. India is justifiably proud of its rich heritage and of its great strides over the last 75 years! 🙂

    So true Nara.. your thoughts are so relatable because I was at the launch gallery at SHAR, as a part of the smaller group of Indians who decided to cheer for India at Sriharikota instead of their TV screens. The last time this GSLV made its trip to space was with the chandrayaan 2.0, and cricket world cup finals was happening on the same day. And it was a match in which India hadn’t even made to the finals.
