Being the Light

People in general have been generous with us through the years. A doctor who took the time to understand our pain. A server who didn’t hesitate and brought to us what we needed before we even knew we needed it. A client who gave us a project at just the right time.

Gifts create connection and possibility, but not all gifts have monetary value. In fact, some of the most important gifts involve time, effort and care instead.

Money was invented long after humans arrived on the scene, and commerce, as we have seen- cannot solve all problems.

In this moment when we are disconnected and afraid, uncertain of the future, not only of us but of humanity altogether, the answer might not be a freebie. That might simply push us further apart. The answer might be showing and standing up to do the difficult work of smiling, connecting, of caring, of telling the other, I am and of extending ourselves where it’s not expected.

Hi, I am Narayan Kaudinya. And i welcome you on this journey, the Road to Nara ! I am an Ethnographer and a practicing Indologist. I did my masters in History and further learnt Sanskrit, Yoga and Nerve-therapy. At 24, pushing most academic sounding, office sitting works away, i felt compelled to know and understand the world and my country, Bharat/India. I travelled, and as it happened i took up teaching in Kashmir and further up in the remote villages of Baltistan in the foothills of Karakoram Ranges. For around three years and many states later there came a time when i felt that it was only while teaching i learnt how to laugh, to see, feel, breathe, love and cry -with children, and mostly resource-less parents in the harshest-freezing border conditions. I write, and work as a documentary photographer and Filmmaker, with numerous published, exhibited and some awarded stories. In my travels and life i have let nature lead me, the divine mother, and as a Yogin, my resolve here is to share my experiences and thoughts as honestly, and through them to blossom in everyone the power and possibility in pursuing your breath, that you seek your true nature with courage and curiosity. Here, on this road i will share my spirit, my love for nature, the elements of life that are us. And in doing so, i'll be happy to see you along.

  1. Absolutely agree with your thoughts Tushar. The gifts of intangibles in life far outweigh the material ones. It becomes our duty to pass them on.
I am so impressed reading your bio. You are doing amazing work. At your age people are only thinking of building their career and bank balance. While you are out there making a difference. Best wishes and God bless!!

    • Hi Radhika, thank you for sharing your thoughts and kindness Radhika. I agree with you that in the long run only thing that might help you for life is sharing and passing on whatever you got. And in their lies happiness and a probable rightful purpose.

  3. Well said. We are further disconnecting, forgetting that love, kindness and peace are far more valuable. Offering to spread these gifts in a world full of fear, competition and judgement is a gift.

    • Rebecca, Yes. So just keep sharing and putting away our good seeds everywhere, and let nature take from there, where our is not enough. Have a wonderful September ahead Rebecca. Thanks.

    • Cornelia, happy September to you. Did you realise, we were in April-March 🙂 Things have not just changed but transformed. Something new is the new normal. Economically, Governments have come way back in time even though mindset remains the same. Even though there is uncertainty but there is a sense of ancientness, stillness. Let see where we are heading to.

  5. This is a timely reminder, clear and simple in its advice. There is a saying that if you have to be asked to help, and not offer it when it is needed, you are no better than the person who refuses
to give when asked. Thank you for your inspiration, Narayan.
